My new favourite thing is Nat Geo Traveller magazine. It’s brilliant. Not only because it gets me all giddy with excitement thinking about where my next trip may be, but because it features work by some amazing illustrators. And usually there are a lot of maps involved. That makes me double happy.

So today I am going to share a few finds from Clare Nicholas, who was one of the first illustrators to catch my eye in the mag.

I particularly love Clare’s hand-drawn fonts, and their gentle ‘wonkiness’. The styling compliments the print work beautifully. I think I’ll be practising this more for my own maps. I also love the route that she created for her California map, even providing a brief itinerary . . . perfect for featuring in travel brochures (. . . something I’d love to do one day!)

You can see more of Clare’s handiwork here.
