As a travel illustrator I offer a variety of services for small customers, large clients, shops & galleries alike. I have outlined these below but if you have a particular project in mind and you’re not quite sure how it might work then just send me an email – I’d be more than happy to chat to you about it and see what kind of plan we can come up with!

I’m all about maps and architectural illustration right now, that’s where my passion lies. I wanted to offer a bespoke map & illustration service for customers that want something a little more unique. I would be more than happy to chat about an idea you have, no matter how vague. There are so many ways in which an illustrated map or print can be customised. For example I could illustrate:

  • your favourite landmark – a listed building, a national trust site, museum, palace…
  • that awesome backpacking adventure, mapping your stops around South America / Asia / USA…
  • travel themed wedding stationery, such as country or city themed table name cards
  • your favourite piece of local architecture – a gallery, pub, music venue, theatre…
  • a map as something special to relive your honeymooning days
  • your beautiful front door or house if you’re a new home owner
  • a favourite walking trail or cycle route

“Mel worked with Shakespeare’s Globe to create a new identity for our annual family festival, Shakespeare’s Telling Tales. She had to work to a challenging brief within our new brand, but was able to explore the importance of storytelling and imagination to piece together a wonderful array of illustrated characters and elements for the series. Mel’s work has proved adaptable for each needed use, with artwork including her illustrations being displayed in print through leaflets, stickers, calendars and posters, as well as for digital use.”

“Working with Mel is such a delight. She is thorough and thoughtful, wonderfully creative and delivers on brief. No problem is without a solution. Her thoroughness assures everyone on the team – clients and colleagues alike – that she is providing the right solution. Her attention to detail is rarely found in the workplace and is able to action on feedback independently. She’s dependable, respectful, a hard worker and a genuine delight to work with. It is dream having Mel on your team and I hope to work with her in the future!”

Shannon Balcom, POSSIBLE

“I love Mel’s maps and it was a pleasure working with her! From the initial contact, throughout the process and when the illustrations where finished. Mel delivers on time and is very detail oriented and professional.”

“Mel’s work sells like hot cakes in our store, and really brightens up the shop. Customers don’t think twice, as the prices are really competitive for her products but the quality is still high. From a buying point of view, Mel is a great communicator and so easy to work with. She comes highly recommended by us at Yellowstone Art Boutique.”

Hannah Stoney, Yellowstone Art Boutique

“We love the customised print for my husband’s 40th. I wanted him hidden amongst the landmarks of New York which we’d be experiencing on his birthday trip away which Mel captured perfectly. It’s a great memento we’ll treasure for years to come.”

If you’re a business – large or small – and you need an illustrated map or some travel graphics then I would love to hear from you! With so many possibilities it would be wonderful to collaborate with you. Just some of my dream projects include illustrating for:

  • travel magazines & travel websites
  • airlines, train lines, coach companies that need posters or guides of their destinations
  • a children’s travel storybook or atlas
  • national parks and heritage sites to create local guides of walking & biking trails
  • local communities to showcase the best of the local area
  • other travel bloggers on guest posts

Pattern is another love of mine, particularly geometrics and I have worked with The Original Muck Boot Company, P.L.A.Y and Green Decore to create some bold repeat prints.  I have also enjoyed repeated success designing kitchen products for major high street stores and supermarkets, as well as refreshing the look of websites for travel companies and also a major healthcare brand..

After discovering my passion for illustrating my travels I realised there was a need for more ‘hip & happening’ (or whatever it is you youngsters say these days) gifts, rather than the typical tourist tack you get on holiday. So I created my own product line specialising in travel gifts. I offer traditional holiday items like tea towels and postcards but with a modern retro twist, as well as homewares such as coasters & prints. You can buy these from my online shop or from any of the events I take part in..

As well as selling direct I also sell wholesale. All my products are inspired by locations both near and far, and they may be suitable for your beautiful shop or gallery. If you would be interested in becoming a stockist and looking at my full range of products, just drop me an email and I’d be happy to send across my catalogue and price list.

I love a good travel blog that inspires travel and provides top tips to experienced travellers and amateurs alike.  If you’d like me to either write or draw a post for your blog I would love to hear from you so get in touch!

I was invited to create an illustration for the new Londonist Drinks book – ‘A Spirited Guide to London Libation’. I was tasked with the challenge of illustrating a map portraying London pubs named after fictional characters. The design was to include the characters these pubs were named after rather than the actual buildings themselves. There was no specific requirement other than it be colourful!

Set at the start of a complete rebrand I was challenged to use a limited palette of reds, blacks and whites for a collection of images celebrating the theatre’s annual family event. Telling Tales encourages youngsters to celebrate the joy of storytelling. This was to be reflected in the engaging children’s characters and fairytale setting, also incorporating the theatre’s new logo.

Having organised a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Peru, Little Orchard Alpacas now needed a custom map illustration to route the amazing journey. The trip is for those with a passion for alpacas and adventure and so simply had to be vibrant! Their route incorporates the Alpaca Fiesta 2018 and extra Peruvian style patterns work perfectly and reflect the new Peruvian gifts in their shop.

ILLUSTRATED MAPS to remember your adventures by

Pick any location and I can create any city map or any country map that you’d like. My map illustrations make wonderful additions to the home, as well as being a wonderful gift for travellers who really appreciate a personalised map. Each map features mini travel illustrations whether it be favourite landmarks, activities or food, and they can all be used to recreate a backpacker route, a special honeymoon trip or even just your beloved hometown.

In need of a refresh,  Trowers & Hamlins contacted me to illustrate their office headquarters at their London site. With the aim of using the finished piece as posters this was a large scale illustration to add a warm welcome when entering a corporate environment.

I was thrilled when my ‘Morocco Arrow Tile’ design was selected by Green Decore for use on a brand new outdoor rug.  They share a love of bold prints inspired by traditional prints from around the world, and with a vibrant new palette applied the new ‘Geometric’ design was launched at Grand Designs Live.

Charlotte Raboff contacted me after spotting my illustrated New York map online. Already a successful travel blogger, Charlotte was planning a brand new website aimed at the Swedish market solely focusing on New York city. She needed maps for each district detailing the quirky hot spots and attractions and it was a delight to work on!

I was approached by The Original Muckboot Company to work with them on a series of seasonal designs for their vast collection of high performance footwear. The first range launched in the Fall featuring snowflake, plaid and winter knit prints, with summery prints following in Spring as part of the Packable Puddletons range.
